Alhamdulillah, all praise to Allah s.w.t. for giving me the opportunity to exclusively breastfeed (BF) my lil precious Adam Nu’man. From day 1 of his birth, we’ve been truly blessed. Despite the ups and downs in the supply vis-à-vis the ever increasing demand, we managed to hit the 6 months milestone and Alhamdulillah continued on until Adam is 10 months old.
I could not ask for more, especially considering my failure to BF Aish. Well, maybe I should give some credits to that. In a way, my past failure made me very determined to BF Adam. Though there were some “mulut-mulut bising” (disturbing voices?) at the beginning of it, I managed to pull it off and be really “keras kepala” (strongheaded?) about not giving Adam any formula milk (FM). Alhamdulillah, my determination paid off.
Based on my own humble experience in breastfeeding, I would like to share some tips with mothers/fathers out there. Yes, father’s support is also important ya! I’m still an amateur in this so just bear with me ok 🙂
- Get educated about breastfeeding. Though the experience/feeling is inevitably miraculous, BF is not something miracle that happen as soon as the baby pops out. It is something we need to learn. (I learned it the hard way.. pls don’t let that happen to you :))
- Always be confident that you have enough to feed your baby. Be positive, you can do it, mommies! 🙂
- Be prepared to hear things like “Your baby is still hungry,” “Maybe you should give him/her some water/formula,” Hence, point #2 is exteremely important. Extremely. 🙂
- It is normal if your newborn doesn’t seem to want to let go. 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours. It is normal. Things will get better a few weeks down the road. You just have to be EXTRA patient . 🙂
- “Gagal sekali tidak bererti gagal selama-lamanya.” If you failed to BF your elder kid/s, that does not mean you’ll fail with your other kids. Determination is key. 🙂
Once you’ve passed the first few weeks, inshaAllah, you’ll be able to continue on without much trouble. A good start will definitely help sustain the momentum. For working mommies, you can start your EBM stash around 3 weeks after delivery. Just a bottle of 4oz a day is good enough. Last but not least, tawakkal and make a lot of du’as. 🙂
Now time to brag my very own result of BF.. heheheh
